John Wesley (1703-1791), Church of England minister and co-founder of Methodism (along with his brother, Charles), championed experiential faith and personal and social holiness. His famous Aldersgate experience in 1738, of which he wrote, "I felt my heart strangely warmed," revolutionized his methods and ministry.
